Lay Ministries

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ…Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it (1 Cor. 12:12, 27)

The Second Vatican Council called everyone to reflect on the role of the laity in the Church. It reminded us that all Christians, by virtue of their baptism, are called to spread the Gospel, to continue the work of building the Kingdom of God, and, most especially, to offer worship.

The laity have the privilege and duty to spread the message of salvation so that it may be known and accepted by all people throughout the world. We are challenged to apply the Gospel to the concrete situations and actual circumstances of our lives. The source from which we draw in order to accomplish this work is the liturgy (i.e., Mass and the sacraments). For the work of the Church to continue most effectively, therefore, lay women and men must have the opportunity for more complete full, active, conscious participation in the liturgy. The Mass is not something you merely 'attend'. It is something in which you participate. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents and temperament.

All parishioners are invited and encouraged to share their talents and interests with the Sacred Heart community by becoming involved in a liturgical ministry.
